A threaded flange is a pipe flange with internal threads, designed for convenient connection to threaded pipes or fittings. Featuring a raised face and female threads on the inner surface, threaded flanges allow for quick installation and maintenance by screwing pipes tightly into place. In some cases, a seal weld also can applied in conjunction with a threaded pipe flange.
This type of flange is widely used in applications requiring easy assembly and disassembly, particularly in low-pressure systems found in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Some common applications include connecting pipes or hoses to pumps, valves, pressure vessels, tanks, and other equipment. These flanges also provide an airtight seal connected to pipes or hoses containing pressurized liquids or gases.
But the disadvantage of thread flanges is also obvious. The crevices formed between the external and internal threads may easily capture and retain process fluid. This causes the thread connection to be easily affected by the gap corrosion and causes failure.
